Summer’s here! Time for beach days, swimming, barbecues, festivals… But what about our skin? Did you know that most sunscreens consist of chemical – even toxical – ingredients? Most well-known suncreen brands use these kinds of chemicals, even for children’s sunscreens (!). I didn’t know all of this before my mom told me so, a couple of years ago. Since then – and by the fact that I’ve a very sensitive skin – I’ve been looking for good and (and mostly) natural sunscreens.
It was hard to find something that convinced me, since almost every brand uses chemicals such as oxybenzone, octisalate, octinoxate and avobenzone. Even brands that pretend to be natural, biological, organic etc. use these. I went to many shops, even health shops, and I often got the answer that what I was looking for just doesn’t exist. But I kept persistent to find something, so I continued my search online. I read reviews, went to webshops, read articles about DIY sunscreens and about oils with a natural sunscreen in it… but all that I found wasn’t chemical-free or way too expensive. But then I found something that I actually liked: an unscented and natural suncreen with an affordable price tag to!
During my search, I suddenly found Biovea, an online health and welness retailer. I had never heard of it before, but once I visited their online shop I saw a great variety of good products and I even found my sunscreen here! The sunscreen I’m talking about is Badger suncreen SPF30+ (Unscented). This sunscreen is cruelty-free and organic and it uses a mineral zinc oxide-filter. It’s free of oxybenzone, octisalate, octinoxate, avobenzone and added Vitamin A. It consists of several natural ingredients, such as olive oil, beeswax, jojoba and cocoa butter, which makes it a creamy and moisturising sunscreen. There are different variants, Unscented, Sports and Baby, and there are also lipbalms and facesticks with SPF. I chose the unscented one, because I don’t like it to have a fragrance and because this one’s specifically for a sensitive skin. You can also use the unscented one for babies and children.
Happily ever after
I’m very happy that I (finally!) found this sunscreen. I like it and I’ll continue to use it. The only thing that may be a disadvantage is the white residue, but to me that isn’t a problem as long as it protects my skin from the sun. I think it’s a very good one and I can totally recommend it to you!
